India-China face-off: BCCI to check VIVO IPL name sponsor deal | Cricket News

MUMBAI: Following a rise in anti-China sentiments in India after the border clash between the two countries at Galwan valley earlier this week, the BCCI has decided to review its deal with IPL‘s current title sponsor VIVO, a leading Chinese mobile firm.
“Taking note of the border skirmish that resulted in the martyrdom of our brave jawans, the IPL Governing Council has convened a meeting next week to review IPL’s various sponsorship deals,” the BCCI’s Indian PremierLeague handle tweeted late on Friday night. It was the first skirmish at the India-China border in more than four decades left at least 20 Indian soldiers dead. The BCCI gets 440 crore annually from Vivo and the five-year deal ends in 2022.

On Friday, Board treasurer Arun Dhumal had said that the BCCI is open to reviewing its sponsorship policy for the next cycle but had no plans to end its association with Vivo as the money coming in from the Chinese company was helping India’s cause and not the other way round.
